Accelerator Overview

Fundamentals, Opportunities, Consistency, Understanding, Success. The F.O.C.U.S. Accelerator is designed to help Black entrepreneurs get focused on key aspects of running their business while providing a supportive community, masterclasses, technical training, resources, wellness activities, and mentorship while connecting them to Dane County’s thriving entrepreneurial ecosystem. F.O.C.U.S. takes a holistic approach to empowering entrepreneurs to thrive both in their personal and professional lives.

F.O.C.U.S. Curriculum Overview

  • Operations:

    Focuses on the fundamentals entrepreneurs should have in place to start and manage their business successfully.

  • Marketing

    Focuses on the 4 Ps of marketing, “place, price, product, and promotion”.

  • Professional Development

    Focuses on the entrepreneurs vision of success, the skills necessary to succeed and developing an individualized plan to meet their professional goals.

  • Wellness

    Focuses on both the health and wellness of the business and the business owner by taking a holistic approach in serving their needs.

Who is the target audience for F.O.C.U.S?

F.O.C.U.S. is designed to help Black entrepreneurs get focused on key aspects of running their business while providing a supportive community, masterclasses, technical training, resources, wellness activities, and mentorship while connecting them to Dane County’s thriving entrepreneurial ecosystem. F.O.C.U.S. takes a holistic approach to empowering entrepreneurs to thrive both in their personal and professional lives.

Is there a cost to participate in the program?

There is NO cost to participants.

Are meals provided during the workshop?

Wednesday workshops will provide dinner. Sunday workshops will provide light refreshments.

Can I take F.O.C.U.S workshops if I have not started a business yet?

We prioritize entrepreneurs who have already started and are operating their business.

Will there be onsite childcare offered?

Children are always welcome at the PCFBW. We have books and activities to keep children engaged along with snacks and refreshments. If you need childcare, please reach out to the PCFBW staff at least one week in advance of the workshop. We will do our best to coordinate childcare.

Will transportation be provided?

Transportation is available by request. If you are in need of transportation, please contact the PCFBW at least one week in advance.

How do I get started with F.O.C.U.S?

Complete an 1:1 with the Manager of Entrepreneurial Opportunities, attend an orientation and finally, take our entrance survey.

How do I complete F.O.C.U.S?

In order to successfully complete F.O.C.U.S, you will need to attend at least 10 core workshops, 3 elective workshops and show progress towards your professional development goals.

 

 

What do I need to do to be prepared for each workshop?

You will need a laptop (laptops are available if needed), any required documents, access to your Google drive, your program binder and anything relevant to the specific workshop.

 

What happens if I register to attend a workshop but cannot attend?

First, reach out to our Manager of Entrepreneurial Opportunities about why you are unable to attend so that we can try and find a solution for you first. If you are flat-out not able to attend, please let us know at least 2-3 days in advance. Workshops will be offered each quarter so you will have the opportunity to attend them in the future.

 

Will workshops be offered in person or online?

Workshops will most often be offered in-person.

 

Where will in-person workshops be held?

At the Progress Center for Black Women located at 30 W Mifflin St. Ste 702 Madison, WI 53703.

“I am not a Black woman, can I take F.O.C.U.S workshops?”

Our work centers and prioritizes Black women, however anyone is welcome to take a workshop.

What happens when I complete F.O.C.U.S?

We will host an all programs celebration, you will receive a certificate of completion and will be invited to an end of year pitch with a chance to win a large cash prize.
